the blessing of Abraham
When we think of blessing, wealth, health, prosperity always come to mind first, God does bless us with all these things, and he always provides for us in abundance. But recently as I was reading his word, God showed me the meaning of eternal blessing.
God promised Abraham (Genesis 17) a blessing of righteousness credited to him by faith, not only to him but also to all his descendants for generations to come. And Galatians 3:29 says "If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise." If we believed in Jesus Christ, we are also heirs of Abraham. The blessing is the righteousness that we receive from God through Jesus Christ. Jesus shed his blood on the cross so that all our sins were wiped out! Ephesians 2:8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith —and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." We no longer need to earn God's favor by works; when we turn from our sinful ways towards Jesus, we are all saved by his grace! Jesus took all our sins and was punished on the cross so that we can all have salvation! The work was finished on the cross, by the blood of Jesus.
Dear friends, are there times when you feel that you have failed time and time again as a friend, mother, wife or daughter? Have you been burdened with guilt because of the many mistakes that you have made? Often I feel that I have not measured up as a friend, daughter, mother and wife because of hurtful words that I have said or selfish things that I have done. But you know what? None of us are perfect, only Jesus is perfect. And because of what he has done on the cross, God forgives us for all the wrong things that we have done. That, to me is eternal blessing. Knowing that I failed yet at the same time, not feel condemned because of the grace of God! So go to God now, he will grant you grace and forgiveness!
Romans 4:7-8
“Blessed are those
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
8 Blessed is the one
whose sin the Lord will never count against them.”
